 Parts of a Light Microscope and Their Functions

  1. Eyepiece (Ocular Lens) – Magnifies the image, typically 10x.
  2. Body Tube – Connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses.
  3. Objective Lenses – Provide different magnifications (e.g., 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x oil immersion).
  4. Nosepiece (Revolving Turret) – Holds and rotates the objective lenses.
  5. Arm – Supports the body tube and connects it to the base.
  6. Stage – The platform where the slide is placed.
  7. Stage Clips – Hold the slide in place.
  8. Coarse Adjustment Knob – Moves the stage up and down for general focusing.
  9. Fine Adjustment Knob – Fine-tunes the focus.
  10. Diaphragm (Iris or Aperture Diaphragm) – Controls the amount of light entering the lens.
  11. Condenser Lens – Focuses light onto the specimen.
  12. Illuminator (Light Source) – Provides the light for viewing.
  13. Base – Provides stability and support.
